MEG'S FAREWELL PARTY

On the 3rd of February, family and friends gathered together along with staff from the Epworth Hospital to farewell  and celebrate Meg's recovery.  Meg is now looking forward to getting home and starting the next chapter of her rehabilitation in Albury. 

All the staff of Castlebar are very excited to finally have her home.

Only 1 day to go! See you soon Meg.

CASTLEBAR bred horses sweep the field in the inaugural Australian Young Horse Series 2009

Held in conjunction with the Upper Murray Challange FEI 2* 120km event on the 6th December at Walwa Victoria.

Of the 23 horses qualified for the final of the series CASTLEBAR home bred horses took the first 6 positions in the final.

HE Sh. Abdullah bin Faisal al Qasimi (UAE) & CASTLEBAR SOBIA do it again!!

INDIVIDUAL SILVER MEDALISTin the 2009 FEI Open Endurance Championships - Assisi Italy.

This partnership following an impressive Silver Medal in this years World Youth Championships 120km, held three weeks ago in Babolna, Hungary backed up to win an Open Silver Medal in the European Championships 160km last weekend.

The pair finished 11 minutes behind the winner Nobby ridden by Maria Ponton.  Maria and Nobby are the current Individual World Champions.

CASTLEBAR SOBIA'S average speed was 19.13 km/hr.  She had the fastest present times for the ride with an average of 1 minute 32 seconds per phase. The World Champion (Nobby's)  average was 2 minutes 5 seconds per phase.

CASTELBAR SOBIA (ODESSA) AHSA F26410 is by our foundation stallion KEVISAN PARK KENTUCKY BLUE ex SHIRA'MAR OBSESSION.

CASTLEBAR's young sire CASTLEBAR OPTIC is a half brother to CASTLEBAR SOBIA along with the gelding CASTLEBAR OMAHA and our exciting ET colt CASTLEBAR ODYSSEY (pending) who is by CASTLEBAR TEMPEST.

9hrs 55min and the winner of the Pat Slater Cup.

CASTLEBAR MOONLIGHT ridden by Elodie Le Labourier - 2nd LWT in a riding time of

10hrs 54min.

CASTLEBAR KALAHARI ridden by Stella Harbison - 9th MWT in a riding time of

12hrs 00min.

CASTLEBAR CARO ridden by Jenny Annetts - 11th MWT in a riding time of 12hrs 35min.

PARLOUR MOUNTAIN PANDORA ridden by Shelley Cowan - 22nd MWT in a riding time of 14hrs 49min.

CASTLEBAR DARTHVADER ridden by Linda Tanian - unfortunately due to his shoe slipping he vetted out lame with 14km to go.

CONGRATULATIONS

to HE Sh Abdulla Bin Faisal al Qasimi riding CASTLEBAR SOBIA (ODESSA) for an individual Silver Medal in the 120km Championship.

CASTLEBAR SOBIA (ODESSA) completed the event with an average speed of 22.4km/hr and was beaten by a nose for the Gold Medal.

CASTLEBAR SOBIA'S average recovery for the 120km ride was an amazing 39 seconds per present!  She had the fastest recovery time of all the horses at the Championships.

to HE Sh Saqr bin Faisal al Qasimi riding CASTLEBAR TRUMAN AHSA G21830 also by KEVISAN PARK KENTUCKY BLUE ex LYNBROOK TAMSIN to a creditable 25th place with an average speed of 19.7km/hr.

LYNBROOK TAMSIN is the dam of CASTLEBAR TREATY who Meg rode in 2002 WEG Spain to an individual 4th place.  CASTLEBAR TREATY went on to further success in Bahrain.

UPPER MURRAY FEI CHALLENGE 2

92km * & 120km **

was held at Rosedale over the weekend of the 20-21 June 2009.

The 120km ride on Saturday was very successful with our 5 starters all finishing in good times.

Kristie Taprell was the outright winner riding Concorde in a time of 7hrs 20min. Concorde also won Best Conditioned horse with a total recovery time of 6min 41sec.

CASTLEBAR MOONLIGHT ridden by Sasha Laws-King (QLD) came 4th Open in a time of 8hrs 29min with a total recovery time of 5min 30sec. CASTLEBAR DELL ridden by Blake Freeman (NSW) came 5th Open while CASTLEBAR TORNEDO ridden by Linda Tanian came in 7th Open.

The 92km ride on the Sunday saw 5 out of our 6 horses complete this ride.

CASTLEBAR KALAHARI ridden by Elodie Le Labourier (France) came 7th Open in a time of 6hrs 18min with CASTLEBAR DARTHVADER ridden by Linda Tanian who was 8th Open.

CASTLEBAR GULFSTREAM ridden by Kristie Taprell came 14th Open with CASTLEBAR CABLE ridden by Zoe Gardner in a time of 6hrs 44min.

Of the eleven horses competing on the weekend 6 were sired by Chip Chase Sadaqa, 3 were by our imported sire Straight Up (dec) and 1 was by our homebred sire Castlebar Khalifa.  It is rewarding to see the success of our breeding program and the decision to use the magnificent stallion Chip Chase Sadaqa over our elite mares is paying off.


CASTLEBAR SOBIA - Best Conditioned and 8th place (average 26.04km/hr) ridden by Sh. Abdullah bin Faisal Al Qasimi in the 120km Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Cup held at the Dubai Endurance City on the 4th April 2009.

The RAK stables also placed 5th with CASTLEBAR TRUMAN in the 240km (3 day) race held in Boutheib from the 2nd-4th April 2009.

MEG & CONCORDE ON THEIR WAY TO WINNING UPPER MURRAY 125 KM

Meg was the outright winner & BC in the 125km riding Kurrajong Concorde at the recent Upper Murray FEI rides held at Eldorado on the 28/29th March.

The previous day Meg had ridden CASTLEBAR GULFSTREAM to 4th place in the 90km - the first race in the Young Horse Series being organised and sponsored by CASTLEBAR.

CASTLEBAR DOOLITTLE ridden by Elodie Le Labourier was 2nd, CASTLEAR MOONLIGHT ridden by Linda Tanian was 4th.

CASTLERBAR TORNEDO with Pierre Auffret was 7th and CASTLEBAR NOVA came in 9th with Clement Marcassier.

To compete on the same weekend with full brothers/sisters is amazing and that they are 100% in blood to CRYSTAL FLYER who Meg won her first Tom Quilty on in 2000 shows that breeding is important!!

Champion endurance rider Meg Wade says she is still coming to terms with her latest Tom Quilty Gold Cup Win. " Its an incredible feeling" she said. "Its still sinking in a bit i think".
